how interested are Irish people in theater?

Solomon Belback: Look up the Abbey theatre. Ireland has a strong history in theatre that is justifiably world famous.Like theater anywhere it is expensive, so movies are more popular as they are cheaper.

Codi Manchel: Irish theater is alive and well: Dublin alone has three large scale theatres in The Abbey (home of Ireland's National Theatre) The Olympia, and The Gaeity. Smaller, but no less important, are The Gate Theatre, Andrews Lane, The Helix and the Peacock. World-famous touring companies are Rough Magic and Druid Theatre, whose work is seen all over the world and whose artisitic director, Garry Hynes, was the first woman director to win a Tony award. There are great Irish playwrights, like Becket, Behan, Shaw, O'Casey, Synge, Friel, McDonagh, McGuiness, Keane, Roche, Wilde, Yeats and many others....Show more
