Whatever happened to art?

Riley Migl: I saw a brilliant comment in the Metro yesterday. One guy said, it was just another case of the emperor's new clothes!! It's so true, art "appreciators" are all too scared to say that it's a load of cr4p, so they praise it. So naturally, everyone else does as well, too scared to look like a novice who doesn't see the deeper inner meaninfulsymbiological pesudofunctionality!!Art should have a concept to it, but also a fair degree of aesthetic appeal. Not just out-arty the guy before them....Show more

Terresa Tsasie: Hah. That was great. As for whatever happened to art? It's busy imitating life, just as it always has.

Hal Rouse: The art "industry" wasn't inclusive enough to be profitable. Rich philistines with no taste were an untapped segment of the market so conceptual 'artists' such as Damien Hurst arrived on the scene to sell rubbish to rich people with no taste - Emperors new clothes style.Conceptual artists like Damien Hurst and Tracey Emin ar! e millionaires as a result whilst people with talent who can actually paint or sculpt well are struggling. This kind of "art" is a product of post modern degeneracy and is sooo last century! There is a new movement called remodernism which celebrates (irony free) sincere works of art from artists working today. Post modernism nearly killed art but the remodernists are bringing it back to health now....Show more

Randa Hessell: I'll tell you exactly what happened to art.Damien Hirst stuck it in formaldehyde, plated it in gold and sold it back to the people at extortionate prices, then Banksy came along and defaced it all
