Shan Lanen: EVERYONE comes from ancestors. You don't exist without them. Genealogy is the methodical process of using records/ documents, to investigate those ancestors and identify them. You have ancestors (whether you know them or not), it is a "thing". Genealogy means FINDING ancestry... it is something you DO, and optional. They both involve ancestors but are two separate definitions/ things.

Fermin Tara: Genealogy and Genetics are not the same thing. Genealogist are family historians and therefore they discover people's ancestry. (for example, starting with your father and tracing where he came from back as far as you can or starting with a great great grandparent and tracing the line to you.)
