Sheree Hipwell: Typically you go to a university that offers a Special Education program. It's usually a four year program and you earn your B.S. Ed. in Special Education. In the program you will have to take several gen. eds (English, math, lab sciences) and you will also take classes in your major such as methods courses (these are classes that give you strategies and methods to teach different content areas), field experience courses (these can include observations, tutoring, block teaching hours), and any other specific courses that relate to needs of students with disabilities.Good luck in searching for a program you like!
