Anton Waln: Industrialization required power, so coal mining became more prevalent, then drilling for oil. The factories produced pollution, both in the air and the water...
Susan Rambo: Disadvantages Of Industrialization
Alexandria Popik: One of the major drawbacks to current manufacturing is that we need to use organic solvents and high heat the achieve results and build useful materials. Most of the organic solvents used to date have been highly toxic to the environment. These are hydrocarbons like tetrachloroethylene, toluene, turpentine, and benzene based chemicals. Workers suffered as did those near by whose drinking water became contaminated.http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1174981-over...The heat and power to run the machinery demanded massive amounts of power. Providing the power came with mining for coal to burn or hydroelectric dams that radically altered local ecologies.Today the answer is being sought by deigning from nature. Living organism! s do all manufacturing using water as a solvent and at ambient temperature. Engineers are beginning to look for specific om a design limiting points then to seek the answer in nature that had 3.8 billion years to field test the concepts. Find organisms that makes distortion free lenses small enough to use in microprocessing or very flexible fiber optics like brittle stars and sea sponges. Then understand how the biosynthetic pathways manufacture these products in water with very small amounts of energy at low heat....Show more
