What is the significance of beauty?

Valentine Michaud: The significance of beauty is what allows us to justify what we like or do not like. Surely you've heard that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." What may be called "beautiful" by one person may not appeal to another person.Beauty is a visual/audial/imagnative concept that people strive to obtain or possess. Yet it changes from person to person. There are many conceived versions of beauty that have found their way into mainstream thought, and many forms of beauty: a beautiful mind, a beautiful body, a beautiful voice, a beautiful sunset. These are just things that someone found to be pleasing to their senses at the moment. The only significance is that the object was pleasing for a time and caused awe, wonder, and euphoria to the beholder. What is truly significant of beauty is that it is fleeing; it can never be kept.
